It's been thirty years since I've shopped for a gold ring. I've continued looking at gemstones online just because I'm a girl, but haven't paid that much attention to the gold settings. Well, like all other manufacturers, goldsmiths have not only raised prices, but have cut back on content to compensate for higher bullion prices. I should've realized that in advance.

After seeing the ring, I just couldn't give it to my Dad for his 75th birthday. The vendor was great, though, & allowed a return.
